Jonathan Dimbleby presented the BBC’s Any Questions from the Paignton Palace Theatre in Devon with Thangam Debbonaire MP, Andrew Mitchell MP, Matthew Parris and Ash Sarkar. Spotted in the audience was the Liberal Democrat Council Leader Steve Darling and accompanying him was a young Liberal Democrat teenager who had stood unsuccessfully at the May local elections in Torbay. Great to see such love in politicians inspired in today’s youth by old hands, although for an episode of Any Questions it was a fairly drab affair.

News is out that Gordon Oliver, the ex Mayor, is enjoying some much-needed r&r in Tenerife where he has a timeshare. A former councillor writes,”he should try the Oriental Monkey as that’s topical”. This gourmet restaurant combines exotic decor with an exotic menu of innovatively prepared Asian-inspired dishes, ranging from red tuna with yuzukoshō, avocado and coriander, beef tataki with jalapeño peppers and teriyaki sauce, or tartar of snow crab with kimchi mayonnaise, all prepared in an open kitchen. Sounds scrummy.
